Welcome Week at the George Washington University provides opportunities for students to connect, build relationships, learn about resources, and build a community at GW.

With 40+ events over two weeks, Welcome Week showcases the many resources GW has to offer for academic success and features opportunities for involvement at the Mount Vernon Campus, in the performing arts, sustainability activities, multicultural student services, international student activities, student organizations, and more.

Welcome Week 2015 will begin on Saturday, August 29th and end on Saturday, September 12th. Events are being planned for you this summer, so be sure to check back often!

Saturday, August 29th (Move in)

First Night at the Mount Vernon Estate: Buses leave beginning at 5pm, George Washington's Mount Vernon
Class of 2019, your opportunity to make history starts at First Night! Join your classmates at the Mount Vernon Estate, the home of America's first President, George Washington. Get a private look at of our university's namesake while exploring the estate through mansion tours, community meetings, and more. Dinner will be provided at the Estate. Welcome to GW!

Movie on the Yard: Doors open at 7:30, movie starts promptly at 8 pm in University Yard
Rain location: Continental Ballroom

RHA Target Takeover: 10:30pm – 12:30am
Target Takeover is an exclusive GW event where Target shuts down just for GW students and is transformed into Club Target. You will have the opportunity to win everything from Keurig’s and TV's to school supplies and Dre Beat Headphones. Buses will be leaving frequently to take you and your friends from Thurston Hall, Kogan Plaza, and the Mount Vernon Campus to the Columbia Heights Target! Be a Good Neighbor Orientation: 6:00 – 7:00pm, Marvin Center Room 301, 800 21st St NW
The primary goal of this training for on- and off-campus students is to enable students to understand their rights and responsibilities as a citizen of the Foggy Bottom and Washington, DC communities. With this knowledge students can contribute to creating an environment that embraces the concept of community and respect.

Come paddle the Potomac River with TRAiLS! Enjoy your last days of summer on this easy-going and relaxing trip. We will be renting stand up paddleboards and kayaks from the boathouse and play in the water for an hour. Don’t miss out on this fun summer adventure!

Interested in giving back during your time as a Colonial in the nation's capital? Attend the GW Community Service Fair and get Certified to Serve!
